First Reviews (Fantastic Fest)

Found two early reviews from Fantastic Fest screenings, one positive and another slightly negative, but both point out some interesting aspects of the premise that left me quite curious about this movie.

It's interesting how the reviewer from Indiewire mentioned how the film probably suffered in post production during the reshoots and the director's original version was somewhat lost in the process.

Well, here are the links. Just letting you know that the Indiewire review is a bit spoilerish.

Not bad, could be good

I have high hopes for Gomez Rejon filmically, and have been keeping an eye on this one.
That second review is concerning. I noticed a while back that the film's running time was stated as 114 minutes on wikipedia, its now 85 mins on most sites, and although I take a lot of pre-release info on movies with a large pinch of salt, reading that in a Q&A with the director he was gutted he had to cut out 15 minutes doesnt bode well. Especially after reading both reviews are very positive with what the film is trying to achieve.
I can only say that I seriously hope there is a directors cut release. Sooner rather than later too. Not in 20 years time y-know?
Its a shame in a way that this is Rejon's first film, so the studio have stuck their noses in, whereas if he was more established as a film maker, maybe they'd have had more faith.

More reviews. These are mostly negative. The main problem seems to be with the script where despite having some good ideas, doesnt really escapes slasher films conventions. Apparently, it's mostly style over substance.

Well, I'm still going to see it anyway. I'm a sucker for films like this, so I might enjoy it even with it's flaws.
