I've only seen the trailer. I've never seen the original. From the trailer, it feels like it's a sequel but I mean I could be wrong.

shareOddly, enough, it is neither one. Since it acknowledges that the original movie exists as an actual film, it is not a sequel. And for this same reason, I don't think it can be labeled a remake, either. Could it be called a "follow-up"? Maybe, but, again, the unusual nature of the acknowledgement of both the original movie and the real-lie history could disqualify that designation. THerefore, it seems to be its own unnamed category.
shareWikipedia says it is a "meta-sequel". Whatever that means.
