Did they even see his body. Aren't the parents suppose to ID the body, even if the crooked cop found his body they still have to verify it with a family member. Secondly the funeral. How is there even a funeral if there is no body? Unless, the police told the parents that they were going to keep the body at the morgue, but you can only do that for so long.

The killers probably bludgeonee the face beyond recognition and smashed out his teeth (I can't remember if they mentioned this)

But, it could work if they used makeup, because Corey was perfectly alive and well in the last scene.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's a plot hole for sure.

If the autopsy doctors looked too closely...but maybe the body's identity was never questioned since there was a direct witness to Corey's murder with a knife....also all this happened in a time and place which likely didn't have the best of modern crime detection technology!

Even though the it looked like the 70s, it was set in present day. Not sure why the clothing had a 70s vibe. They used email at one point of the film. It is just a serious plot.
