Best Slasher in a LONG Time!

The slasher genre has been poorly represented in the last couple of years.

Mostly sequels, and mostly with super low production values and bad acting.

This movie is a reminder that "cheap" doesn't have to be a requirement of the slasher genre.

This movie looks gorgeous. Some of the best cinematography in a slasher since the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Great cast, great acting. Awesome kills.

Hope it gets the love it deserves.

The slasher genre is my favorite sub-genre of horror films. I have trouble getting into those paranormal films like The Conjuring or Insidious. I wish that slasher films would make a come back.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but it does look pretty good. I can't wait to see it.

Totally couldn't agree more. This film was a stunning achievement in every department, the way it covered the first film and since I'm extremely familiar with the real life murders it brought the realism to extreme heights, it was totally immersive in that sense.

I had forgotten that this kind of slasher film experience was still possible thanks to years of horrible and downright ineffective films, especially so in the larger Hollywood releases and the horde of low budget cookie cutter horror flicks.

The cinematographer deserves one hell of a nod, the experimental angles to the eye image reflections shots, this film was one serious cut above the rest of the pack.

Not since Maniac have I been this impressed.

I agree. While the movie certainly had some flaws, I thoroughly enjoyed. Not only it is gorgeous to look at, the stalk and murder scenes are quite tense and effective. The whole set up and connections to the original film are creative and the acting is really good.

Like many have said, the ending with the killer's revelation is quite lame though. Kind of reminded me of the ending from Scream 2. I actually thought they should've settle for only one killer as the twist involving Corey came off as cheap.

There are also some elements of it that didn't quite add up. Apparently the director had to cut out a subplot involving Jami's use of medication, and you can see hints of this in the final version...

All in all, it was nice to see a well-executed horror film that's not about demons or ghosts for a change. I'll definetly keep an eye on more work from Alfonso Gomez-Rejon. The guy crealy has talent.

He does. His episodes of American Horror Story are always visually stunning.

Yea. I agree. Best slasher I've seen in awhile.

The killer reveal was actually a surprise because of the random nature in the motive.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty good. Some questionable editing at times (seems like some subplots were unceremoniously dumped) but overall better than 99% of the horror movies coming out right now, especially anything else going straight to VOD. See No Evil 2, another recent slasher, doesn't even compare to this movie.

I had high hopes for that one based on the cast. It was pretty awful.

Honestly, this movie could have been a legit theatrical release.

i think this movie was pretty good! it wasn't reinventing the wheel as far as slashers go but the movie feels fresh (if that makes any sense). i agree the cinematography was excellent. i also really liked the musical score. the acting from all was very good especially Addison Timlin. i liked her instantly when i saw her in ODD THOMAS and TOWN THAT DREADED just solidifies the fact that she's a VERY good actress. i hope to see her in more movies.

the kills in this were very effectively unsettling (in a good way!) because of how brutal and realistic they were. i liked how no nonsense and (no pun intended) to the point the killer was. he didn't toy with the victims. it was, brutally kill and move on.

the only part that i thought was kind of dumb was having Corey having been a part of the whole thing. Corey and main killer guy setting up that whole fake murder for Corey is just ridiculous. but i can forgive that because the rest of the movie is really good!

Agreed, it was pretty good and also entertaining. Some great kills and I really liked a couple of the special effects. Nice cast. Held my interest much more than Annabelle.

I was thinking the same. It was really well made solid slasher and i really enjoy it. I wonder why the rating is so low. [currently holds 5.7/10 from 1,626 users]

I agree,i was surprised at who the killers were

Same here. I can't believe how good this film was. In every aspect. I randomly choose this on Netflix, & all of sudden I find myself watching the best slasher in a Long time, as you said. Here I'm thinking the genre is basically dead. What a flick. Well shot. Well acted, some amazing individual scenes, with a GREAT score.

We all know horror has taken a bit of dive, slashers in particular. Which is why I can't help but gush about this movie. Going to recommend it to a lot of people.

Awesome remake, and slasher film in general; really dug the old school vibe it went with, and really had some great throwbacks to the original film as well (the trombone scene among others). 9/10
