Why have such a character and not use him in the ending? It's like he disappeared halfway through the movie.

Haha I said the same thing when it ended! I wondered why his character was even in the flick at all. He didn't solve the case or save her at the last minute or anything. He comes into town, gets the story from various people, watches the original movie on a tiny TV while eating a sandwich, then disappears until the very end after she does everything. Sure glad he was included!

For that matter, did anyone ever even find Gary Cole's dead body? Seems like a missing officer would be noticed pretty quick...

Plus, his character was pretty ludicrous/worthless and he didn't do a very good job. And yes, the Ranger did refer to the loss of Cole's character, noting that he hadn't worked with him that long.

This is one of my biggest gripes with the film. Why bother to have actors like Anderson and Cole who have turned in amazing performances (in other films or shows) but give them so little to do?
