This guy seemed more miserable before he lost his arm, then when he loses it he starts cracking lots of jokes. I don't think I've seen anyone handle the loss of a limb so well.

At times it felt like he was still on the IT Crowd, and he ended up being too humorous a character in light of the serious events going on.

As for being part of the Cloverfield universe; did anyone else find this to be more like Event Horizon? Even the tall blonde reminded me of Joely Richardson.

I chalk it up to shock. hought it was originally his arm and they were gonna fudge it by attaching it back to his arm with a cup link or something. Then it started moving on its own and I was like ok either it has a mind of its own or its some one elses arm. Notice how its drum tapping later on as if its waiting for the bland to send them back to their demension. I wonder how that was gonna work.

I find the casting of Chris O'Dowd very strange.
I mean, I love the guy, but he is automatically typecast in my head as a comedian, which he is.

Thus....what the heck is he doing in this movie?

Him loosing his arm and him being Chris O'Dowd just created a farce-like situation, funny and completely out of context really.

I suppose he could play a romcom or something, but not a space-horror/mystery...thing.
