Are the protagonist supposed to be bad guys?

Yeah let's just keep this random baby and not bother to see if she has any worried relatives out there. The type of people you really want to cheer for. I'm sorry I have a hard time feeling bad for the people who illegally keep random washed up babies.

reply

the baby washes up on an isolated island with a dead parent. OF COURSE NOT.

ay some people.

reply

Yes because normal people just assume babies only have one parent and no other relative and if you find a body just hide it, I mean bury it, because we wouldn't want people thinking your kidnappers or something.

Read the book Instead of asking silly questions.

If someone had to read the book after watching the movie to find answers pertaining to the story inaccuracies, what's the point of watching the movie for??

reply

How do you know he watched it?

reply

I actually did, wish is why I think they are terrible people. The wife more than the husband.

reply

I agree with you. I've only read the book and not seen the movie, but I absolutely hated Isabel throughout the book. So completely unsympathetic, and I didn't even like her character prior to them getting married. I've recently had a miscarriage and felt for her character briefly during the parts that she lost her babies, but the way she treated Tom (not to mention the family of her stolen child) was ridiculous and horrible. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the film, though! ;)

reply

No. They're only human. They let their emotions impact their choices. They make mistakes. They're not necessarily "bad" people.

reply

They were so unlikable. The wife especially. I was confused too. The movie seemed to be glossing over this child kidnapping and imprisonment.

just came home from seeing the film and isobel was the most sympathetic character to me. i wanted to drown both tom and hannah.

reply

Yes! I loved Isabelle and was so pissed at Tom and I wanted Hannah to just go away

reply

I agree with you that it wasn't right by ANY MEANS to take a baby that wasn't theirs. But what the movie wants to tell you, which is the right thing, is to hate the sin but not the sinners. People are not black and white, we are all shades of grey. You feel a mix of compassion, anger, sorrow, everything.
