Terrific documentary! Some suggestions:
They didn't do anything spectacular filmmaking wise, but they had a good solid structure and all the interviewees were interesting.
They avoided pitfalls like having recreations of dramatic events or trying to overhype the drama of certain parts - like the one guy's injury, or the avalanche, or the moment of confusion/not being able to speak. Those would have been super cheesy.
And a lot of it had a great 'you're one of them, witnessing it first hand' feeling.
I would have liked some more specific details about the dangers of climbing at that level and the bad things that have happened - like what exactly happened to Mugs Stump, what happened to previous expeditions to Meru Peak, that kind of thing. Maybe The North Face didn't want to finance something that made the sport seem more dangerous than it already seems? Like I bet they didn't want to sponsor something that showed them smoking pot.
I also wanted to see them having s#x on the mountain like all mountain climbers do with their climbing partners. That would have really tied it together, really brought things together. Everybody knows they do it. tiny little shelter, need to stay warm, the camaraderie, etc. The love that naturally develops in those circumstances. Like soldiers. Or Senators.
