He's very infrequently on the show. They brought him in to initially be a father figure to Maya (he takes her out and buys her all new clothes), and then he started dating Maya's mother (none of which was actually shown in the show), then the two get married and neither has been seen since. They rarely show Maya's mom on the show either, which made sense in the beginning because she was supposed to be a bit of a flake who wasn't really there for Maya. But now she has supposedly matured and become a better mother, and Shawn is supposed to be this amazing father figure for Maya, but Cory and Topanga are still shown as being the main parental figures in her life. It's strange to me.
shareI read in these boards early in the series, GGuser, that Rider Strong did not want to play Shawn regularly, so that's why only two or three appearances each season. He has directed β solo and with his brother β many more GMW episodes, however.
