I do wonder if the show started out on netflix like fuller house did if it would been better off since it was obvious from the beginning it never belonged on disney since they would lack the capability to handle the more mature subjects especially the high school years. Fuller house despite a somewhat rocky first season actually improved in writing for season 2.
shareI think this show has a lot of maturity. I do think more likely we could have gotten some of the things we wanted out of the show long term if it was on another channel. Though i, personally, don't want it to be an hour long drama. It would still have to be a 22 minute show with some slap stick and a laugh track or it wouldn't have been what i would want out of the show. It needs the stupid humor to allow for the heavy.
I think the show needed a better blend of comedy and drama since the show either took itself too seriously or was overly campy and stupid at times.
shareShows like this are campy. They don't work without being campy. It isn't that i thought this show was all that funny either, but it is a necessary part of a show like this, in my opinion. You have an episode where Maya wants tacos, so that they can talk a little bit about what it means to grow up and let go of your childhood. Doesn't make it the worst thing ever written.
I dont mind campy if the adds something meaningful which it didnt always deliver on.
