OT: Yet Another Cinderella Story
So they put the Hannah Montana wig on Sofia Carson and tell her to sing. Seems like a brilliant idea.

Ha ha, yeah. Some of the costumes look a lot like Hannah Montana too.
Disney is really pushing hard to make Sofia Carson their next big star. A little too hard. It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for them.
She more than has the talent as she is a good actress and let's be honest here the looks. You think it was "innocent" they put her in that seafoam green one piece in Adventures in Babysitting? Again let's not be ashamed of ourselves she's sexy af and I want her.
Plus Disney Channel is short on star power right now. Right now it's Dove Cameron and she already moved on after Liv and Maddie stopped filming. Lauren Taylor and Landry Bender aren't even Bridgit Mendler or Debby Ryan let alone Dove or someone like Demi or Selena. And neither is Madison Hu, Jenna Ortega, Ronni Hawk or Olivia Rodrigo (maybe Olivia Rodrigo since she has some movie experience). That's not an insult to them as people or actresses (unlike what a lot of you dingbats have said about them) but Disney either didn't think they sang well enough or they just dropped the ball. They have Sabrina Carpenter but for some reason she didn't stick around at all. That's why these shows are important because Disney Channel has them on contractual lock when they're filming so they can actually milk that starpower. They still have Zendaya but they need more than just one star.
Disney Channel was at its peak when it had older (legal aged) starpower like later Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Bridgit Mendler, Debby Ryan, Dove Cameron and now Zendaya and Peyton List. I think because these older stars bring in older teenage or even grown up women which can be a big network boost and trickle down to younger viewers in the intended audience (like how Emma Stone was a fan of iCarly). I think they're betting Sofia can bring in older audiences and along with it a better more upscale reputation than right now more like the Nickelodeon model.
I forgot to say tho that these Cinderella movies are made by Warner Brothers too though Disney might have something in Sofia's contract that lets them air them or they just pay for first syndication rights directly to Warner Brothers.
