Why Disney canned the show

I wonder why Disney decided to can the series after three seasons? I am guessing the ratings.

reply

The show has a pretty big fanbase online, but ratings have not been great :(

reply

I figured the just over one million viewers was low by Disney standards and I guess the fanbase wasn't enough to save it. Too bad it wasn't given a fourth and final season so it could reach 100 episodes.

reply

The ratings were still better than other shows on the network.

Yeah, but I guess the network itself must not be doing too well if that's true.

reply

What do you expect when the show has these huge gaps between episodes and then Disney release episodes ON DEMAND before they air? Then those people go and upload the episodes on Youtube??? Then on top of that they didn't let the show get serious. Disney is to blame for this show screwing up. They didn't make it interesting enough and allowed people to see the episodes and upload them online for many other people to see before their airdate.

You realize Disney factors those ON DEMAND [sic] ratings into overall ratings too, right?

It really *bleep* me off when Rowan complained to Disney to get those taken down but the whole thing that egged her on is intellectually bankrupt shouting like this. I can't condone the people ripping to YouTube but get a life. How can you explain to me that "garbage" shows like Jessie and Austin & Ally got super high ratings way higher than GMW at the end? Or how can you explain to me that GMW got very high ratings until all of a sudden? You can't, because you don't know what the *bleep* you are talking about, which looks to be your favorite hobby

It also makes me super wet that Manna-Fest isn't smart enough to put a block on me I'd give him the Bye Felicia treatment but he's too dumb as a rock to leave.

reply

The network is in a bad place right now. They're moving premieres to 6 seemingly just to avoid the embarrassment. GMW had the best ratings of their current shows but as the flagship show for the network they're the ones who go down with the ship.

reply

The ratings were bad. I'm also guessing Rowan was also becoming a pain in the ass with the activism. Another guess is they see dollar signs on Sabrina Carpenter and want her to be the lead of her own shop.

reply

Zendaya does the same thing and they love her so I doubt Rowan's activism played a role in the decision.

reply

I rarely hear about her stuff, Rowan is out there all the time talking about subjects she frankly knows nothing about. I watched this show with my nieces and nephews and frankly listening to a spoiled over indulged under informed 15 year old try and lecture people was hilarious till it was annoying. That's part of why quit the show and the other part was the writing nose dived and became horrible.

Wouldn't that make you like the show though? Riley is the polar opposite of Rowan and I'm kind of surprised she wasn't embarrassed to be playing a character like that.

While the former may have played a role, I would think that the latter was of a greater concern.

That, plus the lowering ratings, plus the fact that the show was near the end point of most Disney Channel shows, was most likely enough to tip the scales. From a corporate perspective, the show was beginning to depreciate in value. They made their money off of the thing, no reason to press their luck.

Ratings started to tank in season 2. Its no coincidence they started to tank at the same time Rowan started this fake fem garbage. The show lost over a million viewers per ep from s2 to s3. Her fem garbage was a turn off to many people. I have a feeling that now no one is obligated to be nice we may get some real truths from ex costars, she butted heads with a few this past summer through social media. For me Roan killed her own show.

reply

Personally i found rowan to be the weak link of the show since she was annoying.

No. Rowan's activism didn't hurt anything -It was the triangle nonsense combined with dragging it out for a year to get to the conclusion.

reply

Ratings started to tank for the entire network. How the hell are you going to explain that? Rowan's feminism is what killed Best Friends Whenever?

I think a better answer is the GMW fanbase chased the fandom for the entire *bleep* network away with their butthurt. Yes I'm being real here about it. It's not the first time it's happened to a network (Summer 2015 with True Detective Season 2).

reply

uhhh no the whole network ratings fell off a cliff at the same exact time

also right when the ratings started to tank is also when most ppl turned on the show for its dip in quality

reply

Gee it's almost as if the two are related 

Plus the show got stale after the 1st season, I've stopped watching it halfway through.

I do believe the show had so much potential to be a good spinoff but the preachy was over the top whereas in Boy Meets World they made their point across without overdoing like say in the episode in season 6 where cory shoves a teacher after he makes disparing remarks about Topanga and I love George Feeny speech about the importance of being a good educator and when one crosses the line.

i stopped watching after game night. i never forgave michael for that disaster. plus i didn't like the way they did Missy. In sneak attack they made her seem like the bad guy for wanting to date young. sneak attack and first date both took place when riley was in 7th grade. so you tell kids that there's no need to rush dating in 7th grade and just to stay young, don't be like this fast girl Missy, BUT then you later have Riley, the very one who was against it, go on a date??? that's all missy wanted was a date but you shamed her . idk that bothered me and it also showed me just how they'll toss lessons aside just to do a certain plot. like if you knew you wanted lucas and riley to have their first kiss maybe DON'T make an episode like sneak attack . i want JUSTICE FOR MISSY!! lol 💁✊

Then why the hell are you here? All I see from you is neverending crap about how much the rest of the network sucks and how godlike your special snowflake show is and you stopped watching it!

Don't worry, Crotch Rocket has a special place reserved right beside you. Crotch Rocket will follow you around everywhere on IMDb and the only way to stop is to delete your account

That wasn't a disaster - that episode was outstanding. If you thought it was that bad- why are you still watching it ?

reply

According to Deadline, the show skewed too old for Disney and the younger fans weren't as invested.

The ratings tanked during Season 3. I'm going to also guess that Rowan's pushy online behavior had something to do with it as well. Frequently talking down to her fans (and her employer Disney) is unacceptable behavior in my opinion. One should never bite the hand that feeds them.
