Simply a great one

Emotional, intelleigent, creepy, atmospheric...just a few words to describe arrival probably the best sci-fi movie in the last 10 years. No joke, its incredible.

Saw it at the Viennale film festival. Packed theater and applause at the end.

Better than Prometheus, Looper, inception, edge of tomorrow, snowpiercer, cloverfield, predestination. .....Yea I'm sure. I don't doubt its decent but that's a hype statement.

reply

It totally is a hype statement, but given the stuff I have read + the feedback from film festival patrons + the fact that it's Ted Chiang + Denis Villenueve (and everyone else involved) leads me to believe the hype is real in this case! People also rave about Amy Adams, the eerie music, the stunning photography, the naturalistic effects, the supporting cast members, etc., etc., etc.,. The brilliant and unique way the story was constructed together. The emotional punch. etc., etc., etc.,.

I'm not concerned in the slightest. These are just the facts. Both critics and movie-goers alike seem to either really like or love this movie. I haven't seen a negative reaction yet. Everyone's involvement in this have seemed to nail every single scene & segment out of the park. But I still recommend going in with a clear mind and not have any pre-conceived perceptions that could lead to disappointment. Just enjoy the ride and experience the story unfold for what it is.

You're a dumb cu?t just saying. There havent been so many great sci-fi movies in the last 10 years. The fact that you haven't even seen it makes you look even dumber than what you're trying to probe which is that only your opinon can be right.

It can't.

Why is it so surprising to you that a film with universal acclaim can't be one of the best sci-fi films in 10 years or so. Since 2006 what classics have there been? Sunshine? Looper? Moon? Tell me.

this feels like too much aggression for someone who initially just gave a really small paragraph of praise to an incredible film, something that - if you've read the many reviews - most people have no problem doing because the film is deserving of it. OP said they saw it at a festival, you don't think that's possible? that's where I saw it.. and it WAS an amazing film and well-told story. OP also didn't say those listed sci-fi films of the last decade "sucked" they weren't even that talked down, just that this one far surpassed a majority of them, I kind of agree?

see the film, come back and share what you think, the discussions about films can sometimes be one of the best parts of them..

You are so ridiculously paranoid, the movie really is brilliant I caught it last night.

All I can suggest for you at this point is to leave your room. My account has been active for over 3 years, with constant ratings and list updates. The fact you think of people going to these lengths is ludicrous.

Just saying though!

reply

Promtheues? Cloverfield? Edge of Tomorrow? These might be really good in your mind but Arrival was much more sophisticated than these films. Sorry but your comment was obnoxious

You're the one getting butthurt over a statement i just threw in there. You're the one calling me a payed bot for expressing my opinion. Just stop, you're digging your hole even deeper. I'd suggest yiu quietly go back into your hole where everything is rainbows and butterflies, black and white ;)

reply

...predestination...

It's pretty hard to top a film where someone does that to themselves literally. Had me thinking about it for days. Not too many people saw it though, which was unfortunate.

reply

Lmao. Paramount shill? People nowdays are so delusional that if you see someone be overly positive about a movie it automatically means someone's getting paid for it. Nah man, I wish someone would pay me for false reviews. That would be cool. But no, I actually believe this movie was one of the best sci-fi movies in recent times. Thats actually not such a big statement if you think about it.

reply

^ this person is right.. it REALLY isn't that much of a stretch to say this was easily (maybe surprisingly) one of the best sci-fi films of the last decade..

I mean its hard to admit that someone is wrong but can't you see that you're the only one who actually belives what you're saying? You're just downright pathetic. Is everyone who thinks differently from you a bot? I've seen bots on Imdb and none of them reply back nor do they have actual Imdb accounts with ratings and reviews.
Get out more and stop living in your fvcked up dreamworld.

Blp...

I don't think SackOfWhine is a shill. Arrival is just a couple weeks away now. Seriously dude, you should just go see it for yourself and try to clear your mind of any preconceived thoughts & feelings about it. I'm a huge fan of Denis Villenueve, and pretty much everything Ted Chiang writes wins the Nebula or Hugo sci-fi awards. Also VERY high marks towards the acting, music, and photography... so it's a safe bet to put your trust into the quality and craft with the people that actually made this work instead of the posters here at IMDB.

Hey again,

Out of curiosity I clicked his profile to see his other posts. It doesn't appear like he's a company shill. In all honesty, there's enough caliber here that I don't think the movie needs it. True word of mouth should prevail.

After watching Prisoners and Sicario I decided to rent Enemy and I was blown away with the director's vast talent. I'm very excited just to see another D.V. movie let alone another movie that may compete with my favorite sci fi films.

Quick question. How do you feel about it now? I loved watching it and how it unfolded, but once I started to think about it I found it eroding. I find now it exists only for what it is, the experience of watching it, there aren't any truths or ponderings to really take away. Take Inception for example- beyond all the dream dynamics and heist element, there was the solid idea about guilt and how it traps a person, as well as how you can never remember or imagine a person in a way that truly reflects their beauty.
