Keep in mind Rotten Tomatoes is a terrible indication of how great (or awful) a movie is. Metacritic is much more representative of critics' reviews. That is not a slight against this movie -- the slew of positive reviews are very promising and I can't wait to see it.
But people need to stop treating RT like it is the god of reviews.
Average rating on RT and the Metacritic score can be pretty similar though.

With R.T., it appears it's simply a percentage of favorable (thumb's up) versus not (thumb's down). So if all critics gave 2.5 out of 4 stars it's considered a fresh/positive rating.
MetaCritic, OTOH actually takes the star value into account? Is that the primary difference?
Still, it's a huge achievement.
