So it's another "Alien arrives and makes us realize we're evil"

That's been done to death. So they want to make contact... Yeah, sure. They do know we will respond with fire against anything we don't understand? And they're meant to be more smarter than us... Sure. god, this director thinks he's so smart and yet he use an old and tired concept. And yet peopel defend him. lol. Prisoners was great, yes. Sicario was so damn pretentious i could write a book about it and it left me annoyed. I'm disappointed he used this tired concept since he had potential.

Last time it was global warming, anybody care to guess which SJW cause they'll be championing now? Gay marriage is so last week. My guess is black lives matter.

That concept is tired, yes. But that's not what this film was about. It's based on the award-winning novella "Story of Your Life", and it's unlike any other first contact story I've read before. The closest would be Carl Sagan's Contact, but even then not quite. This one's in a league of its own. Don't trust trailers. They lie.

True, but its also very possible the trailer is true and they have turned another gem of a story into a turd.

I saw a few posts from people who said they saw preview screenings and that it was very close to the original story, so that's good to hear.
