I've just come back from an early screening of Arrival so if you have any questions feel free to ask. I won't include any spoilers unless you ask for it. If you don't want to see spoilers it's best not to be on this thread.
Perhaps you can answer me this: at the end we see Louise and general Shang talking to each other. Then the chat comes up (she said the same last words that Shang's wife said to him) and there is this Chinese dialog when they're calling (which leads to the demobilizing of the armies etc.). Watched it in the cinema, and a lot of people seemed to go ''aha'' as if they knew what she said to him in the dialog and what the last words were, but I have really no clue. Do you have any idea of what this may be?
Answer to first question, I wouldn't say the movie moved me as much as Interstellar did on the first time watching, so Interstellar was better in my opinion.
The aliens look like octopuses. They appear behind frosted glass. Everything is white on their side. You see two black octopus-like silhouettes appear and they use their tentacles to spray signs in a black smoke (which you see in the trailer). Big oval(ish) dark grey body, with 7 tentacles. They float and move in the same way an octopus or jellyfish does in water
Im not sure about the first question, depends what you would class as a generic sci-fi movie. But in recent memory, no, I can't think of anything quite like this.
General thoughts: Its definitely worth watching and the ticket price, but like me, you might be a little unsatisfied with how everything transpires. Without spoiling, the movie grabs your attention and intrigue about the aliens, but then starts to visit aspects of Amy Addams character's life that I found boring. The slow pace of the movie is definitely not what you'd expect from what the trailer sold as a sci-fi mystery/thriller.
But I'm probably nit-picking, it was still one of the better movies of the year and worth seeing. A 7.5/10 in my opinion.
