So Combo ended up being the better man

…than Milky. Nice twist!

Disappointing ending

Were gutted with combos outcome.. Rehabilitated man who's past still caught up with him... Bloody milky didn't even get his hands dirty.

reply

Yeah, crap one for Combo, who genuinely seemed remorseful and rehabilitated.

Not defending it, but in fairness, Milky did explain to Combo in the café that when he was left dying / fighting for his life in the hospital bed, by Combo's horrific assault on him, that "promises were made" by his family (not by him), kind of like it was out of his hands.

Of course, it was Milky who drove Combo to the café in his car, where the rendez vous with his family was clearly arranged in advance.

Combo made his apologies to Milky, and in a way, accepted that Milky's family wanted their revenge on him.

I don't know if Combo would have accepted it, had he known that his fate may have lay at the hands of the skin heads who dragged him from the van, up the stairs to the flat...

reply

Combo always was the better man.

reply

Eh, not when he was dancing on his damn head in the movie he wasn't. Hearing a lot of sympathy for Combo - and understandably so given he did seem to be genuinely remorseful and rehabilitated - but at the end of the day he WAS a complete scumbag who attacked another person for absolutely no reason and very nearly killed him. I mean lots of horrible people regret the things they've done, but ultimately you reap what you sow and what goes around comes around etc. I can't blame Milky too much for wanting his revenge, but I too hoped that he would stop it if only to save his own soul.

"I love a coward!"

reply

If you think that Combo attacked Milky for no reason then you completely misunderstood the central theme of the film.

reply

That should have been no justifiable reason. Obviously I get why he did it, my point is he's still a complete scumbag FOR doing it.

Combo was an angry drunk man who had a short episode of violence on someone who he was jealous of. It lasted all of 5 min and combo immediately regretted it and got milky to the hospital. He even stated that the racism was really just him compensating for the unhappiness in his own life he never truly hated milky just for his colour. Now I'm not excusing his assault on milky but it was not pre meditated and was instantly regretted.
Milky on the other hand helped execute a premeditated cowardly but viscous murder on a sorry man who had served his time and had even kept the mother of milkys child out of jail in a compleatly selfless act.
I know who I class as the evil one, milky deserves every bit of guilt he is suffering from.
taking the blame for a murder he did not commit.

Sorry the last sentence is a typo error.

^^^^ This ^^^^
I was glad that Combo addressed the 'reasoning' (for want of a better term for what was a seemingly mindless attack): The jealousy of Milky's family unit and belonging.
I think the scene at the end that focused on all of the characters having reconciled with one another - except for Milky who was alone and clearly tormented by what he'd done - spoke volumes. He'll have to live with his actions for the rest of his life.

Be me, for a little while.

reply

Okay.. so would Milky have went down the path he did if Combo hadn't beaten his head in? Of course not. That "short episode of violence" almost resulted in Milky's death, and how sorry Combo may have felt about it is completely irrelevant to the point I'm making. Combo did go some way to redeeming himself and I didn't want him to die, but it was his own actions that ultimately brought about his fate. Plus, as Milky said in the final ep, at that point it was beyond his control anyway. His Uncles had already made the choice for him when he was dying in a hospital bed.

"I love a coward!"

reply

That is bull that Milky didn't have a choice.

He chose to drive Combo to the diner.
He chose not intercede on Combo's behalf when his uncles showed up.

The reality is, he chose vengeance and hatred (much like Combo did back in '84), and he is going to have to live with guilt. He should have listened when Woody talked to him about forgiveness. If Woody could forgive Milky for weeks/months of sneaking around behind his back and dipping his wick in LOL, then Milky should have been able to forgive Combo. The moral of the story is, Woody chose forgiveness and wound up happy, while Milky chose vengeance and wound up miserable.

reply

*beep* Milky. Ill never forgive him for this. I hope hes dead inside for the rest of his life.

reply

Yeah Milky was out of order for what he did let's not forget when Milky was attacked they had been taking drugs just before not that I excuse the attack but he obviously regretted it immediately.
And you could say when he was smirking he was deliberately winding up Combo just before he attacked him.

reply

So what you are saying, in simple terms is that "Black man deserved beating".
You are a terrible human being.

reply

He didn't deserve it, I was just saying he was winding him up.

reply

The second comment I have seen from you calling/implying people are racists for no reason whatsoever. You far lefties are *beep* insane.

reply

why does implying someone is racist make you a lefty? i don't agree with the guy's comment but sweeping generalisations about so called lefties sound equally as daft.

reply

Pretty much everything about your comment is moronic... no offence.

"I love a coward!"

I'm surprised so many people have so much sympathy for Combo, yes he reformed and was shown to regret his actions but that does not absolve him. At worst Milky is as bad as Combo but certainly not worse, Milky also showed remorse for his actions beforehand but no one seems to mention this.

It's hard to say who is worse, but Milky's actions are understandable considering what happened. Loads of people say you should forgive but in reality if something like this happened to them they would find it difficult to do that.
