Why did Kelly (or Woody actually) think Combo killed Mick?

By which I mean, for what reasons do these characters believe that Combo attacked and killed Mick?

I ask because it's not very clear what they thought had transpired between these three characters (Lol, Mick and Combo). At the end of '86 the plan that Combo comes up with is to lie in court and say that he interrupted Mick attempting to rape Lol and after a struggle ended up killing him. If that's what they said in court then why does the idea that Mick was an evil and abusive man shock Kelly so much when it is revealed to her in '90? Same with Woody. Woody doesn't find out that Mick abused Lol when she was growing up until after her attempted suicide in '88 when they are reunited. Surely Woody would have been present for Combo's trial for killing Mick (or at least heard about it) and would know that (in accordance with their story) Combo killed Mick whilst defending Lol from his attempt to rape her. But this all seems to come as news to Woody when he finds out at the end of '88. So, is there some inconsistency here or am I missing something? Why do Woody and Kelly not appear to know that Mick was in the act of attempting to rape Lol when he was supposedly killed by Combo, and in fact had abused Lol throughout her life, until Lol confesses this to them in '88 and '90 respectively?

Did Lol tell Woody about the abuse in '88 or just that she killed her dad, not Combo? I thought it was the latter but I could be wrong. If I'm right then I've come to the conclusion that a select few people heard the story Combo gave in '86 which would include Woody and probably Milky. I'd guess they tried to protect Kelly by keeping her in the dark. Does not explain what Kelly (and people like Harvey and Gadget) thought DID happen though.

Yes I just watched the last '88 episode last night and I had remembered it slightly wrong. Lol tells Woody at the end that she killed Mick and not Combo, but she does not mention the abuse. But yes, I'm still puzzled over what Kelly (and I suppose the others who didn't know the full story) thought did happen between Combo and Mick and why.

Kelly's in denial and can't accept/process what her dad did. She even says as much at Lol's wedding when she says she's,been stupid and it all made sense and that Lol and Trev have no reason yo lie. It's sllpbvioys to us as the viewer because a) we know it's true and b) he's not our dad.

Urgh, cannot type on my new phone... I meant it was obvious to us as the viewer* Apologies for the other typos.

Lol said she lied in court
So she told the court Combo did it
Thats why they thought it

Even if he was defending Lol, he could have been sentenced for manslaughter or similar.

I thought it was odd that she didn't tell the others that she killed him in self defense when she finally owned up. Although, she did plan to have the hammer with her, so maybe it was sort of premeditated self defence.
