Ford said he was done with Star Wars after ESB, that's why Solo's fate was uncertain between ESB and ROTJ.
Then he reluctantly came back to TFA so that Solo could finally be killed off, and he was, brutally and finally.
Now he comes back to TROS for, what? To try to turn Kylo Ren to the good side? Why did Ford do this? In honour of the deceased Carrie Fisher?
He came back because they asked. Despite what people interpret from his seeming hate of Star Wars, he’s always been on extremely good terms with Lucasfilm. I remember him making some cryptic comment immediately post-The Force Awakens, and I wasn’t shocked at all by his quick-cameo in The Rise of Skywalker. I thought it was a very nice scene that worked in the film perfectly well.
