As a Force Ghost, I presume.
maybe obi-wan will help rey with her Jedi training and with the Jedi books.
shareI much, much prefer a real actor over a computer simulation. Remember how unnatural and jarring Grand Moff Tarkin looked when he was CGI'ed into Rogue One? McGregor played Obi Wan in 3 films. I can see no compelling reason whatsoever to digitally fake Guinness.
shareActually Grand Moff looked largely fine, it was Leia that had the major issues. Though I agree there is no reason to CGI Guinness when you have Ewan available
shareIt makes sense to use Ewan. Not just because he's, you know, alive, but also because using him makes more sense in terms of the story.
If you could incarnate as either an older Alec Guinness or a younger Ewan MacGregor, of COURSE you'd choose to look like Ewan!
Hmm your opinion doesn't have anything to do with Ewan's overall appearance when compared to Alec does it? :)
He appeared as Alec Guinness when he was a force ghost..so for consistency sake it makes more sense for him to appear that way. Anakin appeared younger in the SE of Return of a Jedi, but that could be he appears as the person he was before he completely fell to the dark side. I don't care that much. I like Ewan, so I would love for him to show up in the film. I have little to look forward to at the moment since the standalones seem to be on hold and RJ left little reason to be excited for part IX.

Oh, it has quite a lot, I admit I like looking at Ewan. I also am of the opinion that most human beings will choose to look good, if it requires little or no effort on their part.
It also has to do with the fact that I like MacGregor as an actor and am always happy to see him onscreen, and am always happy to see him getting work. And visual evidence that he's touching base with the Star Wars people would be nice, since out of all the ideas floating around for other films the Obi-Wan prequels seem like the best idea. So yeah, there's quite a few reasons I'd like to see him with the blue glow on!
Gotta disagree with you. The entire time Tarkin was on the screen, I was completely distracted. The technology is impressive, but it's not quite there yet.
shareIt never bothered me..and people that I know that didn't really know the actor couldn't tell he was partially a CGI creation. My wife's reaction was I thought he was dead rather than is that CGI. It helps that really only a part of him was CGI. Because of how they did it, other actors didn't have to look into space..or look at balls...to know where to focus...the actor was there, using his real voice and was in costume..and the most important part was the actors real eyes could be used, an area that used to be a big giveaway to CGI humans. It was something where knowing the actor is dead has a massive effect on your perception of this character I think. Because you are looking for the flaws unconsciously at the very least..consciously for most people.
For me this CGI > entirely new actor. I think his presence along with Darth Vader elevated the entire experience of the movie.
I didn't think they had the Tarkin quite right myself, he looked like Cushing but he didn't seem to … occupy space the way a living being does. Gravity didn't seem to affect him properly.
So yeah, if there's a choice between a living actor and a CGI representation of a dead one, right now I'm of the opinion that they ought to use the living actor. That may change, if the ever get the CGI totally right.
Fuck Guinness, he hated Star Wars. Even told a young fan once to stop watching Star Wars. As far as I’m concerned, Ewan IS Obi-Wan
shareThe young Star Wars fan had watched it far too much, Guinness was right over obsessive fans.
shareI see your point, but Sir Alec did a great job of portraying that character. I do agree that the character is more Ewan's at this stage of the game. Like Ian McDiamid and Liam Neeson, he was able to overcome the directing flaws of Lucas and deliver solid performances.
shareTerrible idea but I’m sure this is crap.
shareHmm so there will be at least one likable character in the movie, so I guess that is a bonus.
