...it will be a rehash of a reboot of a remake...

The question now is who will replace him? Hope it's not a frying pan into the fire situation.

reply

I vote for James Cameron

reply

I think he's got his hands full with the four Avatar sequels.

reply

He'll probably never get those done. Aside from that, who wants to see Avatar sequels? It was a neat spectacle, but not a good enough story to bring back viewers for sequels.

reply

Agreed regarding the Avatar sequels, zero interest in seeing them.

Nolan, Spielberg but definitely not Lucas for ep 9.

I'd go with any director with enough credibility and clout to successfully counter studio control. Hell bring back Abrams before Lucas.

reply

Abrams?!! NO WAY! He'd copy what Lucas did anyway. He's a hack with no originality. Spielberg would be the best choice because he's worked with Kathleen Kennedy so many times. I say bring him in!

reply

Well that was a coincidence. Ha. It's not ideal but I'm gona say it's a win. Sure it was good they got rid of Colin Treverow but they easily could have picked a worse director to replace. JJ is a safe choice that it will at least be decent, if not a total rehash of ep 6. We can look forward to ep 8 and rest easy(ish) for ep 9 now.

reply

Decent is not good enough. Mediocrity is what people have come to accept. And, I'm convinced now, after having seen The Last Jedi, that it won't be a rehash, because they crammed in The Last Jedi and Empire Strikes Back into The Last Jedi. Episode IX will be some non-sensical junk with no threatening evil character. In other words, it will be boring.

reply

If JJ were to do any major rehashing for ep 9, after what we just saw in TLJ, then it would be a real pansy move on his part. Love it or hate it, Rian J had balls when deciding plots for TLJ. If JJ retreated back into the past and took no risks, I’d lose respect for him.

reply

I never really respected JJ Abrams anyway. He's basically known for 3 movie franchises that were originally successfully created by others. He's riding off of their success. None of his original stuff has been any good.

Rian J having "balls when deciding plots" doesn't mean it's good. A criminal could "have the balls" to rob someone in broad daylight. That's not good. I've never seen anything else he's done, except for maybe the Breaking Bad stuff, but I don't credit that to him, I credit it to Vince Gilligan.

reply

I guess should have said the industry would lose respect for him which matters much more than what you or I think. I hated Lost, super 8 and what he did with mission impossible. Star treck was ok. It took me 2 years to really like TFA.

I qualified the balls comment with love it or hate it (and everything between). So wether you or I think it’s good or not has nothing to do with my point.

reply

I agree, Lost was freaking terrible! Didn't bother with Super 8 (fake Spielberg film), and Mission Impossible, well, it should just be called something else. I only watched the first new Star Trek film, and there were a few good things, but much like Star Wars, it just made me think that it had all been done before in a much more compelling and original way.

I hate to say it, but every time I watch The Force Awakens, it gets worse. I can't even sit through it.

Be it as it may, Rian's balls have testicular cancer.

Ha.

I think Nolan should direct with Lucas as Executive Producer.

reply

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you, Sir JJ Abrams!

I bet Colin Trevorrow said "fuck it, I'm not doing a sequel to this shit" right after he read the script for "The Last Jedi".

reply

[deleted]

Don't forget that Spielberg actually produced that film, so Trevorrow was probably acting as his protege...
