Director Rian Johnson Mocks Angry Fans Wanting to Remake It: ‘Please Actually Happen’

A website called “RemakeTheLastJedi.com” and corresponding Twitter account popped up in June, purporting to be created by a group of producers who mean to make a new version of “Episode VIII.” Of course, people can pledge money on that website. Supposedly it has raised more than $22 million as of this writing — but claims that the cost of actually making the film will be covered by the unnamed producers behind it.

Director Rian Johnson responded on Twitter to the Remake account, and in keeping with his recent attitude in responding to the worst “Star Wars” fans and their online activities, he was appropriately cheeky. “Please please please please pleeeeeeeaaaase please actually happen,” Johnson wrote.

Specifically, bigoted “Star Wars” fans have complained about the new series’ women leads, Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), and about its black male lead, Finn (John Boyega). For all the complaints about story, the vocally angry fans trying to get “Star Wars” changed have harassed the films’ stars, apparently driving Tran off social media service Instagram.

That site sounds like a parody site to me. In one hour he went from $22 million to $60 million? And if they're going to turn the money over to Disney, how could they guarantee donors names in the credit? The odd thing is that legitimate news sources aren't doing any fact checking about this site and who is running it.

Besides. why would anyone want Disney to remake the film when they messed it up to begin with?

They don't fact check enough. I tend to do my own fact checking.

thought she was some badass pilot, who maybe was going to give Poe a run for his money as best pilot in the resistance. Instead she was handed a terrible character, not her fault, @rianjohnson’s. I’d love to see KMT’s Rose have a better role.

Same goes for @JohnBoyega's Finn & Daisy Ridley's Rey, loved them in TFA but in TLJ they were one dimensional boring characters. Liking characters has nothing to do w/Race/Gender/etc but everything to do with, if its an interesting character. They’ve lost their way from

nah the fanboy idiots are the ones whom no movie would ever be good enough to rekindle the warm glow they got from when they first saw whichever one was their favourite , and then instead of simply voicing that opinion on a forum they set up a whole website and twitter accounts and fake kickstarter type thing in a purile effort to make the point they didnt like it .

And while it is a troll it's one that's working beautifully due to the desire of actual 'fanboys' to paint every criticism as deranged/racists/sexist delete as appropriate. But then it's hardly surprising so many defenders have fallen for this obvious bait considering they've been suckered by these appalling cut n' shut jobs masquerading as movies.

If these "producers" manage to get this movie made and released after spending tens of millions to fight off Disney's litigation, hat's off to them. Oh, and good luck casting any of the principle Star Wars actors under exclusive contracts. Almost any iteration of this wanton project would have to be released for free online to avoid further lawsuits, so this would ultimately be a money-losing passion project.

I’ve yet to see Last Jedi but remake the Force Awakens, which was tripe with piss poor characters too. Only good thing was the title.
