Those bombers, those stupid effing bombers

They have got to be the stupidest plot device in any sci-fantasy movie ever, and their ineffectiveness is matched by the incompetency of the pilots involved. They are easy targets for the First Order to pick off, and they fly in such close formation that chain reactions occur. Perhaps their bombs are extremely powerful, but that's more reason to keep them apart, and what's more, where are the fighter escorts for them? And where are their shields? If the main Resistance cruiser can have powerful shields, why can't they? And don't get me started on the unnecessarily complicated way of launching the bombs by electromagnetic propulsion.

I think it would've been better if they were missile launchers, firing off thousands of them and becoming armed shortly before hitting the target, and what's more, have them leave trails, too. Those scenes in Battlestar Galactica were so cool, they should've done it here. Minimal risk to the ships and pilots, and the target will still blow up.

No, the ultimate aim of those ships were as a plot device to introduce us to Rose and her sister. It's such a shame we never got to know the more capable sister, you know, the one who actually saved the Resistance and heroically gave her life, and not Rose, who wasted valuable time and ultimately threatened the Resistance by preventing Finn from heroically giving HIS life for the cause. Then again, I have to wonder what would Rose's sister have done if that control pad had never fallen down?

It does make you wonder how shit like this gets past the first draft never mind the finished film. Did they need to have bombs 'falling' in space? People say 'it's just a movie' or 'it's Sci Fi' so it gets a pass but that's just bullshit - I'm already having to suspend disbelief that this glowing rectangle showing flat images of famous people means anything at all so why the fuck should I have to create my own head cannon just to explain lazy writing?

reply

it's space fantasy where people have "the force" and can project themselves across galaxies...

Who cares about the particulars of their space war battle tactics?!

reply

Jesus Christ

reply

People who want to win wars, that's who.

reply

Does the lack of explanation for gravity on their space ships and the existence of sound in space and a thousand other similar physics nit-picks bother you guys as well? 😁

I mean, they even have their pet dog-man chewbacca flying space planes... It's not meant to be realistic... 😉

reply

Whatever the rules of physics are in the SW universe, they are expected to be consistent. Bombs fall in space, debris doesn't fall. Lasers sometimes fly in a straight line, sometimes arc in a parabola.

reply

Two things.

One. Sounds in space, explosions etc, aren't plot points. They might not be realistic but they make the film more exciting. We have music in films... that's not realistic either is it? Big difference between window dressing and basing your entire dumb movie around bullshit.

Second thing. If your logic is, it's got a pet dog-man flying space planes so therefore anything goes, where does that end? So when we inevitably get a 4th death star in IX and if Rey pulls out a banana and goes pew pew and blows it up with her mind you'd be happy with that? I mean, you must be - it's just pet dog-men flying space planes so who gives a fuck if it makes sense amirite?

reply

i see no problem with Rey using the "force" to mentally and actually collapse the deathstar onto it's self, imploding it and saving everyone... Why not?!

In fact, i think i made that very comment in an earlier post weeks ago...

Banana not needed... She is simply better at force using than any predecesor... It's harry potter style fantasy... nearly anything goes...

reply

Dammit this is you isn't it RJ?

reply

bwhahahhaha.... imagine?! Rain Johnsons defending a Banana-less Star girl on a Star Wars movie sub-forum?! That would be too good 😎😂

Honestly though, as a casual observer of StarWarsism... I think a deathstar thought implosion is on the cards... testing thea waters 😉... Brace yourselves fandudes! ... you're in for a rough ride!

Obviously the falling bombs used repulsor lifts (seriously repulsor lifts can explain everything in Star Wars) to appear like they were falling and impact the First Order Star Destroyer.

What's really annoying is that the "Resistance" used all of its bombers to attack a single Star Destroyer when only one was needed.

In the 1994 hit Star Wars game, Star Wars - TIE Fighter, you could equip your TIE Defender or Missile Boat with Heavy Bombs, these were capable of taking out capital ships with ease, at least there it was done right--and follows the physics of space. They don't fall, they continue forward from their jettison point, and don't stop until they hit something.

I don't care about stupid videogames, I'm on about the movies.

reply

I didn't ask if you cared about "stupid videogames" I was merely making a point about how much more logical the Heavy Bombs worked in previous Star Wars works over "gravity in space" The Last Jedi.

reply

There ARE no Star Wars "works", other than the movies. And if there are, they are definitely NON-CANON.

reply

lol

reply

I was baffled as well that there's been a remote trigger for those bombs. What for would you need that? Plot devices abound.

reply

Dude just turn off your brain dude lmao duuuuuuuude star wooors

reply

Exactly! 😎

reply

I cannot turn my brain off to how RETARDED the Resistance was in this movie. To be honest, they DESERVED to die.

reply

Everybody in the movie turned their brain off.
