Daisy Ridley may not be that enthusiastic about acting in Star Wars beyond "9"

Daisy Ridley apparently made some comments about wanting to move on from Star Wars after Star Wars 9:

"We're only one movie into the new Star Wars trilogy, but Star Wars: The Last Jedi is just around the corner. Before you know it, Star Wars 9 will be here and this new journey will be over. But that doesn't mean characters like Rey can't show up in future movies. However, Daisy Ridley says that she's likely done with the character following the conclusion of Star Wars 9. Say it ain't so, Daisy. Here's what she had to say about it in a recent interview when asked if she wants to play Rey again after Star Wars 9.

"No...For me, I didn't really know what I was signing on to. I hadn't read the script, but from what I could tell, it was really nice people involved, so I was just like, 'Awesome.' Now I think I am even luckier than I knew then, to be part of something that feels so like coming home now."

She reportedly "flatly" said no, meaning that there wasn't a lot of hesitation. It's completely understandable that she'd want to move on with her career and explore different things. Then again, Mark Hamill is coming back to play Luke Skywalker decades later, so never say never. But when pressed about it, given her positive tone towards the Star Wars franchise in general, Daisy Ridley reiterated that she truly feels done with Rey after J.J. Abrams wraps up directing Star Wars: Episode IX.

"No...No, no, no. I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it's three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out."" [https://movieweb.com/star-wars-9-pitch-daisy-ridley-cry-colin-trevorrow/ ]

Doesn't sound too keen and that's probably normal but it also suggests she's not exactly a fan of the storylines or production or maybe fandom. However, she apparently recanted a bit later:

"Daisy Ridley made headlines in November when she revealed that she was done playing Rey after Star Wars 9, although nothing is set in stone. She later clarified those comments, and Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy has stated that Rey, Finn and Poe will all return at some point after Star Wars 9." I guess we now know who won’t die in Episode 9 thanks to Kathleen “Peter Principle” Kennedy.

I also found this bit interesting:

At one point during the party, Ridley became quite excited, as it was the first time that she learned what the director was planning for her Rey character. Trevorrow led Ridley to another area of the party where they had a private conversation. Bobby Moynihan goes onto state that Daisy Ridley started crying as the director detailed his pitch for the final trilogy sequel.

So his idea was so good it moved her to tears and yet KK had to fire him. Hmmmm....

reply

Colin Trevorrow may have been able to pitch an idea that sounded good and "emotional" but his execution in writing the scenes would have butchered whatever it was. I'm not disappointed we lost Trevorrow I am actually glad, he is not a strong enough director to tackle a Star Wars movie.

reply

He must have had one hell of an idea, because she is probably stretching those acting skills whenever she has to be positive about TLJ.

reply

Maybe she was crying because it was terrible, lol

reply

It seems weird doesn't it?

reply

Maybe she's worried they'll do to Rey what they did to Luke.

At Comic-Con, and other similar appearances, before Force Awakens, she seemed genuinely thrilled to be part of the whole experience. In her appearances before Jedi, I noticed she wasn't nearly as "into" it. Smiled when she knew the camera was on her, but immediately turned off when she wasn't the focus. It was obvious something was bugging her.

reply

Perhaps she had recently seen the finished film and the honeymoon period is over..and she is seeing what a majority of the fans are seeing.

reply

Like Mark Hamill, she also expressed concerns about TLJ's script so this may have brewing for even longer.

reply

The difference is that Hamill is almost retired, so he doesn't care that much and was quite straightforward about his opinion.

Daisy Ridley, on the contrary, needs to be careful to avoid being blacklisted, she must get out in a more diplomatic way. Don't expect her to be very explicit.

reply

She just wants to get bigger roles outside of starwars... so far, she's just played side characters outside of the starwars movies...

reply

She doesnt seem like the sharpest tool in the shed - she obviously wasnt hired for her smarts.
