Did those ski-speeders on Crait even have weapons?

All those speeders take off toward the gorilla walkers, and obviously they won't try shooting the walkers due to the armor. Thus, I don't recall a single shot being fired, and I really can't comprehend what the "plan" was to send those junky speeders up against the walkers. It seemed like another big ham-fisted setup just to have Finn try sacrificing themselves, like how the entire ham-fisted "Star Destroyer chase" was for Holdo.

But Finn... did he try shooting the big cannon at all, or did he just decide to kamikaze it without even firing a single shot?

Maybe those ships LITERALLY didn't have any functional weaponry. It really wasn't a battle at all, but it sure was pretty with all the red and white. Very festive for the Christmas season, I guess.

Plus: Rebel speeders that needed skis for stability.

Meanwhile, over 50 years before this, slave boy Anakin built a hovering pod racer out of junk.
Over 30 years before this, Luke Owen and Beru had two hovering speeders and a T-16 craft.
Rebels had plenty of hovering ships in their day.

Repulsorlift is basic technology in Star Wars, as basic as wheels in our world. No "mono-ski" necessary for any of them.

Remember folks, after all the events of Episodes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and Rogue one, after all the efforts of the good guys and they still managed to get themselves reduced to piloting rocket-powered ice skates.

Maybe the jet-skis are such ancient technology that they not only lack weapons, but they're also simple enough for Finn to suddenly become a pilot worthy of joining Poe in battle (after an entire Episode 7 where a main character trait of Finn's is the need to find other pilots, and being in a coma in the short gap between movies).

At least they made the battlefield colorful! A bit of a ham-fisted way of accomplishing that, but hey... I don't know what else to add.

I find it MORE amazing that within mere minutes of arriving at an abandoned base, they were able to get a dozen near-mothballed speeders functioning and have people "flying" them

Including one who spent much of the previous movie looking for other pilots because he didn't know how to fly... and was in a coma between movies... But now joins Poe on the battlefield, piloting his heart out.

It's also interesting that most of Last Jedi deals with limited fuel reserves, and that all the Resistance ships are running out of fuel at the same time, yet the old Rebels left behind plenty of fuel in the speeders when they cleared out that base (granted, the speeders probably don't require much).

Maybe the galaxy recently hit "peak oil" and fuel is suddenly becoming scarce?

You mean, like it refers to Peak Oil or something? I don't think that has much to do with social justice. That's all resource economics and it's the kind of thing that people shouldn't politicize.

Either that or I'm not picking up on what you mean.
