Questions about the movie (Spoilers)

I have been trying to process this movie.I like it but there are some points that I might have missed

1) Near the end why doesn't Luke tell the rebels that he was there to buy them time/stall the first order so that they can escape? Also how did Luke know there was another way out of the cave ?

2)Why did Vice Admiral Holdo not tell Poe about her plan?

reply

1. He did buy them more time, but I wouldn't say that that was why he was there. He was there to confront Kylo Ren. Really, the Resistance just took advantage of the situation. Not sure whether Luke knew there was another way out or not. Maybe he just knew it was a possibility.

2. I had the same question. If she had had Poe on her side, things could have turned out differerntly.

reply

If he was just there to confront Kylo Ren, what purpose did it serve ? If it was a projection there surely he was not going there to kill him

reply

Confront, not kill ... talk, try to convince, try to turn ... Just like when Luke had to confront Vader in Jedi.

reply

1 - Good question.

2 - I think she was coming up with the plan on the fly, so at the time she spoke to Poe, there was nothing yet.

reply

Poe saw her loading refuelling the transport ships. It's pretty clear her plan was made up. Poe confronted her about it yet she said nothing.

reply

Yes, good point, but at least that was long after Finn and Rose were sent on their useless mission.

reply

I read this somewhere on gizmodo that explains 2) to some extent-

with Leia hurt, Holdo is new to the top spot in the Resistance. She needed respect and authority more than she needed Poe’s okay or permission. He’s impulsive and aggressive. These are not great leadership traits and those traits kill lots of people in The Last Jedi. By not telling him, Holdo was asserting her leadership.
