Laser sword

Who’s else was bothered by the “laser sword” comment by none other than Luke Skywalker himself? Am I missing something or was that just weird and off putting? Also, the “god speed” comment was out of place but I’ve seen that discussed here already.

They said laser sword in Phantom Menace too. Anakin called it that as a kid. I wonder if it's sort of a kiddie thing to say, like the word doggy instead of dog or ba-ba instead of bottle. Luke was berating Rey like a child, so he might've been mocking her. Essentially it's the Jedi way of saying "You want a bab-ba?" or something.

As I pointed in the last godspeed thread, there are multiple gods and religions in Star Wars and the word god was uttered in both Return of the Jedi and, again, Phantom Menace.

reply

Yeah I can see that. I’ll go with that explanation. Thanks for bringing it up! :)

reply

I aim to please.

I pointed this out already in an earlier thread, and yes, it bothered me also, until someone explained that it was sarcasm on Luke's part.

reply

I’m going with the sarcasm theory as well. ;)

reply

Agreed, just Luke talking down to Rey, Skywalker style.
