Two more weird things I haven't seen mentioned

One, the opening scroll is a bit a bit odd this time, since there is no time gap between Force Awakens and this. Traditionally there have always been a few years between the episodes. Due to this one butting up against the end of the first, there isn't really anything to catch up on other than letting us know the First Order is still going strong.

Thus, the lack of story to update results in the opening scroll mentioning an event that happens in the middle of TFA: "Having decimated the peaceful Republic"

Two, I just remembered that DJ guy was able to cloak his ship from military sensors. I know they have cloaking devices on big ships in Star Wars, though they're only mentioned from what I recall, but that is a device that requires power. DJ just stole a random ship and was able to hide it from sensors. That seems like it would be highly valuable, not to mention slicing open the shields. However, overall he was just a highly convenient character (as he also got them out of jail)... until he wasn't. They also seemed to get inside that Star Destroyer awfully easily, but that whole disposable side plot was already causing the movie to be too long anyway.

Oh hey, did anyone else's eyes roll when Rose and Finn notice a nice convenient shuttle waiting to be stolen sitting literally right up against the exit of the hangar bay? Literally the whole place is falling apart and on fire but that ship is waiting next to the door. It was basically the only thing in the entire scene that wasn't burning, just this little spot of convenience sticking out like a sore thumb.

Yeah, I'm really getting upset about how unnecessary and distracting and disposable that entire side plot was. That's REAL amateur stuff.

Speaking of that scene: how is Phasma still alive? Finn and Han alluded to putting her in a trash compactor on Starkiller base, which was destroyed a very short time later. How did she escape?

That whole scene is extremely contrived anyway. I mean, BB8 stealing an AT-ST? Pffft!

No clue about Phasma, but she just had to be wasted again. How long was she even in the movie, like one minute of screen time perhaps? Maybe two, tops.

Yeah, I agree on it being very contrived... Although I did kinda like the BB-8 moment. It was silly in a bad way, but I'll call it a guilty pleasure.

Oh and this side quest had the one joke that I really disliked: The whole thing with the iron. I'm watching some weird ship land, I immediately think it looks like a steam iron, and of course it's a steam iron.

That shot was more like sitcom B.S.
