Looking ahead to Episode IX

Can we all agree to dispense with the pointless speculation about new characters? With both TFA and TLJ, there was endless theorizing about who certain characters were, especially the ones played by big actors but whose publicity surrounding their characters were deliberately vague. Particularly Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyongo, Max von Sydow and Benicio del Toro. There were soo many theories, most of which were stupid, but at the end of the day, who did they turn out to be?

Snoke - New Character, unceremoniously killed off and whose backstory is apparently unimportant
Maz Kanata - New Character with butthole eyes there to briefly deliver plot device, whose backstory is apparently unimportant
Lor San Tekka - New Character, unceremoniously killed off and whose backstory is apparently unimportant
DJ - New Character, there to briefly subvert expectations with a bait and switch

I think the lesson learned here is, the simplest explanation tends to be the correct one. So whomever gets casted for the next one, it is likely a random new character, completely unconnected from the previous trilogies and who will have very little screen time or character development.
