Thought yoda looked real bad whilst sitting on the ledge at the begging of the scene...much better once he was in the same frame as Luke...overall loved the fan service,but must admit I don't remember the point of the interaction...

I think that they were trying to do some non-CGI stuff in the movie. But, doing a non-CGI Yoda after two full films of CGI Yoda was a mistake. Once you've made the decision to go CGI, it's a done deal. Going back is going to be obvious.
