One loose end... (spoilers)

Having watched the entire series now, one thing is bugging me.

In Season One, when Lena is on the farm with Serge she begins showing the signs of being one of the returned – she develops those same bleeding sores as the other ghosts/zombies when they are too far apart from each other. This is never referred to again and it is obvious by the end of the Season Two that Lena is not dead.

I am assuming that maybe there was originally going to be a twist where it turned out Lena was really dead, but that this was later abandoned some time in the three years between Season One and Two.

Unless anyone has another explanation?

I think it's meant to show the connection between twins. There are often stories that identical twins are psychically linked and they certainly showed that Camille and Lena are linked (think back to the scene on the bus that caused Camille to go crazy, or right at the end when Lena immediately calmed down/stopped crying at the same time Camille came back after being shot).

So I think they're trying to imply that when Camille started to decay, Lena did too because of this psychic twin link. Just my opinion, though.

This was my thinking too. In series 1, she seemed aware that Lena was up to something back at the house and that's why she tried to leave the bus.
