is there more than one show?

I just saw a commercial on the Sundance channel for The Returned coming in the fall. Characters are not the ones I watched on A&E. Is there more than one Returned?

reply

There's the original French version, Les revenants, released in English-speaking countries as The Returned, then there's the US remake, also called The Returned.

reply

Is the Sundance channel one the European version? I got into the one on A&E and was wondering if it's coming back.

reply

It appears that Sundance is airing the French version. I have seen elsewhere that French tv is beginning season 2 of the show on 28 Sep.

I think the A&E version is coming back, but I haven't seen a date yet.

reply

I hope say, it was very good.

reply

Sorry. From what I've discovered, the A&E version is canceled. I thought it was ok, but I did prefer the French version--more atmosphere, for one thing.

I'd recommend that you try it.

reply

Every time I like a show it's cancelled. Loved Ghost Whisperer and Resurrection when they were on. How much of the other one did I miss? Idike to catch up on it, I've never watched anything on Sundance but now I will.

reply

The second season is about to begin, so you've only missed one season--eight episodes.

reply

I checked our on demand and it's not there to watch. Thanks, I'll start season 2. Maybe it's similar to the A&E one and it will be easy to follow.

SundanceTV will air the first season (which is currently available to stream on Netflix) in its entirety Oct. 18 beginning at 6 a.m. ET, and the second season premieres Oct. 31 at 10 p.m. ET.

The A&E version and the original French version had major differences after episode 6, I would strongly recommend at least watching episodes 7 and 8 of season 1 before watching season 2. If you have the time though watch the entire first season.

reply

Thank you for the info. I hope it's just as good as the A&E version.

reply

It's better than the A&E version imo. Should try to watch the whole first season of the original if you can, it's on netflix I believe, if you have it. The remake wasn't terrible (until you hit the major changes) as far as set, script/plot, location/setting go...but the US version's acting was bleh, everyone felt so flat.

reply

Yesterday on Sundance I caught episode 6-8 and put on my dvr. Missed 1-5 I watched a little of it and the storyline is exactly the same.just annoying to read subtitles. I will be watching.

reply

Yes, Sundance aired the French version.

reply

Thanks. I just finished the A&E version on Netflix (1 season) then when I was checking out other shows I saw The Returned, Season 2, and that really threw me, since I knew the A&E version was cancelled after season 1. Now it's clear that the French version (the original) has 2 8 episode seasons, whereas the A&E is 1 10 episode season. I'm looking forward to watching the original French version. Very cool concept.

reply

Yes, but the US version was cancelled, the original French show, Les Revenants (the returned), will air in the US, with subtitles, on Sundance on Halloween: http://www.sundance.tv/series/the-returned/where-to-watch --Saturday, October 31st, 2015

reply

Thanks, was told that before. Very disappointed.

reply

Never did see the A&E version but the French is pretty good & scary. Try it.

reply

Thanks, I'm going to.

reply

It was my understanding that the US version wasn't cancelled, just that they only planned one season. Readily admit I could be wrong.

reply

The US was cancelled.
