So why did Victor "return?"

How/why did Victor come back in the first place?

reply

Your guess is as good as mine.

TV Shows I've watched: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls072583934/. Any suggestions?

Do we really know why any of them have come back? I mean we can postulate unfinished business and all that, but as far as I can tell/remember, we don't have a clear cut answer for anyone.

Spoiler: I've seen the last episode of the 2nd season (0208), if you haven't seen it yet, skip this.

At the end of the episode, Victor/Louis is at the beach with Julie and her partner, he goes swimming, it seems everything is as normal as anything with Victor/Louis is going to be. As he's heading back to shore, he hears a baby screaming. Cut to Simon and Adele's spawn Nathan being dropped off by Lucy on a seemingly random doorstep. A couple comes out to discover a baby boy. Cut to credits.

My take is that just as Victor/Louis appeared one night at the houses on the hill, so Nathan just "appears" to the unsuspecting couple. The cycle is repeated, with Nathan growing up to assume whatever role Victor/Louis played in the events. I assume that this cycle has been going on for a long time, Victor/Louis was just a cog in a chain.

Camille's Dad (can't for the life of me remember his name) had his wall with all the people he knew of who'd died and come back, and the common denominators were that they had all died in the valley area, and they had all died sudden, violent deaths. None of the back stories we saw involved disease or old age, so that is definitely a factor. From the scene with Victor/Louis and his 'Dad', it appears that his internal pleading to bring him back is what awoke everyone else, but of course we have no idea how he had the power to do that - or how old he really is. Given that we know if the returned are killed again they just come back, there is a good chance that Victor has been around for a very long time. They very definitely only showed a tiny bit of what Victor whispered to Louis, so we don't know *exactly* what it is about Nathan that is like him, or why he needs to be taken care of by strangers.

Correction: What Victor whispered to Lucy. Oops!

Didn't Victor say to Lucy that Nathan would be 'just like him'?
