i missed something in starting season 2 (spoilers)
Where did Thomas go? I forgot or did he just not even show up for S2?

At the end of Season 1, he went into the community center, ordered it 'boarded up' (they had those metal window covers that mechanically came down), and for the police to stand guard outside. Then, the next morning, when everyone went outside, the police outside were gone.
In Season 2, the status of Thomas is revealed at some point in the season. So I think you need to keep watching and not let yourself be spoiled.
I will say that (a nonspecific comment but spoilerish, nonetheless) his situation in Season 2 didn't quite fit with how Season 1 left off, imo.
