Marc Maron Has Found His Niche--Finally!
I saw Marc Maron do stand-up years ago and loved him but his career never really took off. For one thing, back then there were few outlets for the not-quite-mainstream comic, but also because stand-up isn't the perfect forum for his comedy, Like Woody Allen, Maron shines within a thinly-disguised autobiographical narrative. I like Woody Allen as a stand-up but I love Woody Allen as a filmmaker, which is not unlike how I feel about Maron. I enjoyed him as a stand-up as well as his podcast, but I LURVE the IFC show, "Maron." And I didn't expect to. There have been a slate of new comedy shows and most are good or OK. That's what I expected. Instead I was floored. The directing, camera work and the writing are brilliant and the guest line up could not be improved upon. Ileana Douglas, Eric Stoltz, Denis Leary, Dave Foley (Kids/Hall). Andy Kindler, Adam Scott (Parks & Rec) and Judd Hirsch as Marc's dad. After the series I see a career as a writer, director and actor in films. Mel Brooks himself gave Mark the thumbs up so check this show out.
