I will disagree. I prefer slow-burning horror like this. There's too much reliance and quickness and cheap shock value these days, and that isn't truly scary. Good horror is all about the subtlety, build-up and small moments that build to a grand scare. That's why films like The Thing, The Changeling, The Haunting (the original, not the dreadful '99 remake) and arguably this film are so effective- they take their time.
