in folklore Vlad is dracula...

I'm guessing thats not the case with this so is Vlad going to be dracula's father?

Gary Oldman is the greatest actor to ever live.

Uh, no. Romanian folklore never associated Prince Vlad III with vampires.

Vlad is a national hero to the Romanian people and it is highly insulting to consider him an evil bloodsucking monster.

Bram Stoker renamed his character Count Wampyre Count Dracula after learning of the name and that it meant "Son of the Devil".

He then relocated him from Styria to Transylvania upon reading a guidebook and liking the obscure and superstitious nature of the region.

Count Dracula does maintain a lot of his Austrian-Hungarian roots.

I wonder if the writers will have as much respect for the actual history...

Like the other poster said, the Romanians don't link Vlad Dracula Tepes with being a Strigoi, though Bram Stoker did, even if he denied it there's far too many similarities for it to be pure coincidence. (and thus modern literature does too)

The historical Vlad III's father was Vlad Dracul (Vlad II) (Dracul meaning "The Dragon" (or an alternate meaning of "The Devil",) earned when he joined a chivalric order named The Order of the Dragon.

Vlad III, with the Surname Dracula, meaning Son of the Dragon/Devil.

So yes, it is the case in this movie, but they're reffered to as singular names to not be as confusing (Dracula for the main character, Vlad for his father)
