As a chef...

I really have to say I am sick of these chef movies. They portray us as some messed up psychos with a superiority complex.

I worked in a range of places, ranging from really pathetic dumps to classy restaurants and I worked with a wide array of people. I never entered conflict with anyone at work, I never yelled at anyone, I never demanded army discipline or acted as if I was the high and mighty lord. And I never really cared about what happened after I am gone. I went there, did my work, went home and stopped thinking about it for the reminder of the day.

Sure, as every work it can get a bit stressful, but compare someone getting their Cordon Blue steak over or underfried with the stress paramedics, doctors, cops and firefighters deal with and you get your things into perspective. I really hate that image of the chef with his hands crossed starring into you as if he just saved the world. You cooked something, bud, congrats!

So, yeah... I am a chef and I hate chef movies. Mostly because I hate how they portray chefs (like huge douchebags).

How many Michelin stars do you have? They had a Michelin chef working on the film and from the commentary he didn't seem to have a problem with that. At the end of the day it's a movie and movies centre around the conflict between characters so everything is heightened end exaggerated

I dont own a restaurant. Heightening and exaggerating made the character unlikeable and hard to identify with.

Are you a chef or a cook? If you're not constantly creating new dishes, you're not a chef.
