Do You Remember How Excited Everyone Was About Rey Touching Luke's Lightsaber And The Flash backs / forwards?

Before the dark times, before TLJ?

Sure there were some TFA complainers but most people were still onboard with the "Who will Rey be?" stuff and in particular the lightsaber flashback / forwards to Cloud City, Luke Skywalker and the burning temple, the Knights of Ren, etc.

There was a ton of speculation and a lot of fans spending a lot of time debating what it all meant and what would be revealed in the next film.

And in the end it was nothing. The clown Rian Johnson couldn't even be bothered working the biggest lore build from the previous episode into his film and literally just had Luke Skywalker toss the lightsaber away...

That was where Disney lost the franchise right there.

It didn’t mean anything because JJ Abrams is also a clown that creates a “mystery box” for every project, with questions that can never be answered because there was never meant to be any. The whole Rey character was an annoying ass Mary Sue, when all true fans really wanted to see was Luke, Leia and Han reunited, the movie failed to even deliver on that original premise.

It's true that JJ Abrams famously likes his mystery boxes but it was really down to Rian Johnson whether it remained that or whether he expanded upon it in his film.

Unfortunately, as I said, he decided to throw the opportunity to build up that lore down the toilet and just make whatever his own thing was.

😂 Actually how could anyone not be impressed he managed to put a Spaceballs scene in actual, "real" (/ Disney intellectual property) Star Wars film!

I remember in the 7, a character said she will explain how she got Luke's lightsaber. Did the sequels ever explain how she got the lightsaber?

I went into it with an open mind but left with a bad taste in my mouth due to Kathleen Kennedy's sexism and JJ Abraham's racism towards the Star Wars white male fan base. They've made it perfectly clear we are going to take every last thing away from you.

I don't know about "towards the Star Wars white male fan base" but I do remember he had the black character clearing space between animals so he could drink at thr water trough! I thought that unbelievable at the time...

I remember speculation on the Cloud City/Empire flashback, there were rumours Rey was supposed to see Luke fighting Vader in the flashback. whether it was filmed or not idk (I think doubles for Luke and Vader were listed in the credits), but Rey was def in the Cloud City corridor. There were even Luke and Vader cloud city action figure reissues for TFA to have tied in with the flashback
