YouTube video makes the case that J.J. Abrams ruined Star Wars before Rian Johnson did.

gotta check that, it is probably right

The gist is that all J.J. Abrams set up was a bunch of questions, leaving all the answers up to the likes of Rian Johnson. It also makes the case that The Force Awakens just reset everything to right where we were at the beginning of A New Hope, rendering the entire OT pointless. Which is of course true.

My thoughts exactly

nahhh rian johnson ruined it.

JJ setup a decent amount of mysteries, not like Lost style that would never live up to the mystery and be unfulfilling. but onces that actually fit and could have interesting reveals and pay off later if handled semi competently.

Instead Rian came in and said "what third film??? hell naw im going to subvert expectation and just cut off all narrative story and plot lines now and leave nothing for the third film!"

Rian literally said in an interview about it he only likes telling endings, so made TLJ to be the end of the trilogy.

“Look, in terms of the ‘Star Wars’ movie I did, I tried to give it a hell of an ending,” he explained. “I love endings so much that even doing the middle chapter of the trilogy, I tried to give it an ending. A good ending that recontextualizes everything that came before it and makes it a beautiful object unto itself

The guys an idiot. and so inept he literally broke all star wars logic and history with his little lightspeed crash maneuver. all to have cool visuals and "a hell of an ending"
