People walked out of the theatre when I saw this

I saw TFA at a theatre in an Asian country where SW is certainly known about but isn't the kind of pop culture sensation it is here in the west (at least before this trilogy anyway). To my amazement, significant numbers of people walked out early. At first I thought they were just going to the restroom, but few who left came back, more and more people were getting up and walking out as time passed, and by the end of the screening the theatre was almost completely empty.

It's just an anecdote of course, but this was my first experience ever witnessing more than one or two people walk out of a screening early, and I never would have expected it to happen to a blockbuster like this. It just goes to show how over-hyped this awful film was by certain rogue elements of the fandom and media.

The only time ive seen people walk out was when I went to see Date Movie. Groups walked out left right and center, everybody was silent. Probably angry like I was just to sit through it to get their moneys worth.

Right in front of me there was one kid laughing his ass off and his girlfriend was sat silent.

Other than that ive seen two girls walk out of something really good, I think it was a bit deep and advertised as something more trashy, cant recall what it was but they walked.

Date movie was horrible... I feel sorry for you.

I felt like walking out of The Last Jedi during the stampede scene. I stayed because the ticket was expensive.

Cool story bro...

My guess is they didn't like the new characters and weren't prepared to wait for Harrison Ford to appear ?

Other than the people walking out, I distinctly remember a young boy and his mom sitting behind me, and every minute or so the boy would ask his mom what the hell was going on. I knew enough of the language to sense that the kid couldn't understand who any of the characters were or what the force was. That's interesting to me because I had no such confusion when I was his age watching the OT for the first time. A lot of young kids have seen this new trilogy as their first SW films, and I really don't think Disney has created many new lifelong fans.

I don't think very many people there knew or cared who Harrison Ford is.
