Now that the hype has died down:

It seems that everyone is pretty much realizing how bad this movie really is. It's very rewarding to a guy like me who realized this movie was bad the first time I saw it.

Like I said in another thread.

The current SW hate narrative is that TLJ squandered what JJ and TFA had so brilliantly set up.

Have you been missing meetings or something?

Wish you guys would all get your stories straight.

reply

TFA didn’t brilliantly set up anything

reply

Make up your minds.

reply

I never once claimed that TFA set up anything brilliantly.

reply

You're confusing 2 groups of people here tho.
The ones who were happy with TFA and utterly disappointed by TLJ
and the ones who saw TFA for what it was (a hastily written ANH rehash) and didn't even bother with TLJ (at least at the cinema). I mean BO numbers don't lie:
TFA $2,06 Billions vs TLJ $1,32 Billions. That's around $700 millions that Disney screwed themselves over b/c the bullshit propaganda was more important. Terrible business sense, terrible choice.

reply

I enjoy it more each time I watch it.

reply

My buddy and I immediately saw it for the cash grab that it was. As we were leaving the theater he said to me he hoped Disney wasn't going to turn the Star Wars franchise into a cash grab, and I said they already have. We didn't bother with any of the subsequent ones.

reply

Rogue One was pretty good.

TLJ was much, much worse than TFA.

Solo was meh.

reply

TFA was absolutely atrocious & TLJ was bad mostly because it inherited a total clusterf*ck so it at least has a better excuse for being crap.

I don't think any of the stand alone films are particularly good but they all function better as individual films than the woeful ST.

reply

What pissed me off about TLJ was the first five minutes I was like “wow the acting isn’t all that bad this film might be pretty good” then the plot starts to unfold and I see flying space leia and Poe prank calling the first order and all of my hopes quickly washed away

reply

I felt the acting, cinematography, & sound were all superior in TLJ although the plot was still hot garbage which is more a testament of just how truly bad TFA actually was.

reply

It's not bad. It's just a copy-paste from the original one. Being a copy doesn't make it bad. It just makes it... a copy.

reply

id say its built on the same template and formula of a new hope , it still has its own story arc that differs, much rather have something closer to the originals than something experimental like the awful TLJ, TFA is a comfort blanket for old fans, much needed familiarity , the prequel story arc was fantastic , but the way the films and characters were put together was awful , id hate to have a new trilogy that followed the prequel formula , so for me i like TFA , it was fun, although similar to ANH, i can forgive that for the first sequel movie.

reply

It wasn’t just being a carbon copy that made it bad, it was Rey’s Mary Sue powers, Darth emos temper tantrums, Finns over acting, the characters making idiotic decisions, the bad acting, and just being overall boring

reply

Yeap. Those are things that weren't in the original trilogy. Rey was a mix of Luke (the path of The Force) and Han (the resourceful smuggler), but making her a Mary Sue was clearly something new they threw into the mix.

So, let's say that TFA is a movie with virtues and flaws. The virtues are everything they copy-pasted from A New Hope. The flaws are everything else.

Prior to seeing TFA in the theater, I'd assumed for my whole life that I'd always be excited for any new Star Wars movie that came out. When I was a kid in the '80s it was common knowledge that there was supposed to eventually be 9 Star Wars movies, and I thought that was awesome.

I watched each of the prequels in the theater when they came out. TPM was my most anticipated one, because it was the first one in 16 years. They were okay, but they didn't even come close to capturing the magic of the original trilogy.

I was looking forward to TFA too, because it was the first Star Wars movie in 10 years, and it was the start of a new trilogy. I intentionally avoided reading anything about it before going to see it. It turned out to be the most annoying movie I've ever seen (supplanting "Death Proof" from the top spot that it had held for the previous 8 years), and I never thought it was possible, but it turned me off to future Star Wars movies, at least to ones featuring "Rey." I haven't seen episodes 8 or 9, nor do I ever intend to. I'd rather hang out with a swarm of Maine black flies than watch some more woke, SJW, Mary Sue horseshit.

The only good thing about TFA was the picture quality. It was shot on 35mm film and looked beautiful; much better than the last two prequels which were shot on video.

reply

How is it bad It had new characters which I enjoyed sure it followed same beats as ANH but so TPM to a Degree nope dont nope was my favorite of 2015 and I enjoyed The Sequels More Than The Prequels and I like Prequels and OT
