Why didn't they just re-release A New Hope instead?
I mean we would have seen the same movie and I feel like it would cost a lot less?

Yeah the fact that Leia had to be rescued by Han and Luke was demeaning to her gender, women don't need any help from men, they can save the entire galaxy by themselves.
shareIs this a real question? The Force Awakens is the second most successful movie of all time in terms of box office. The movie was made to make money, and it did that in spades. Doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a good movie, but rereleasing a film that’s been widely available on VHS, DVD and Blu-ray for over thirty years is not going to make anywhere near the return on investment that a new Star Wars movie will.
In other news, give whining about Star Wars a rest. Every one of these negative threads has been started by you. I hated TFA and The Last Jedi looks even worse, but that’s life. Disney is making money and so it’s not going to end anytime soon.
The most literal answer is that Disney couldn't make is four billion dollars back unless it could release whole new lines of toys.
You can't separate art from commerce these days.
Yeah so they just made multi million dollar toy commercial that sounds very familiar (cough Batman and Robin cough).
shareLucas secured merchandising rights, specifically, to A New Hope in the 70's and it's how he go so rich. He even lowered his royalties to get those rights.
Then he went toy crazy with Star Wars.
Yet here you are bashing Disney for doing the same thing!
Once again, as usual, your rants are lacking in merit, logic, common sense, and historical accuracy.
Is it possible for you to post without being a hypocrite?
