In real life, after the 2 were murdered at a cross section, the cops searched their apartment, found a wallet, in it, the list.
The list was real. However, from what I read, it did not state they knew much about the list, also, in the trailer, it says to 2 have a list.
So I am not sure how they will tie the list in the movie as it ends with the 2 being shot, and no aftermath.
In the movie, the Feds didn't get the actual 'paper' list. Joey D went to the Feds to save his ass from being taken care of by the mob. So the Feds got the list without having to do anything.

the fed says "they don't even know we got it" as the camera tracks towards, what we assume to be, bonnie and clyde's apartment door.
i understood big al asking about joey d and being told joey d couldn't make it because he was a little sick to mean that they'd executed him. enough said
i went back and rewatched a litte. both interpretations work; the feds stole it and lied about where it came from or, joey d turned thus his absence from the meeting and big al's comments.
I think you're right. In the movie, it appears the Feds got their hands on the list prior to Thomas and Rosemarie's death. However, in reading about the actual events of this case, I learned the Feds didn't get the list until after the couple was killed (or so they say).
I couldn't tell from the articles if Thomas and Rosemarie actually knew what they had. I've read both accounts. In one, it says they knew and used the list, as in the movie, to try to ensure their safety. In other accounts it seems the list was simply found in their belongings. The mob obviously realized they had it but the couple may not have known. If they had, one would assume they'd have put it in a more secure location.
I also found out in the articles that they had been married for a while. In the movie they were killed one day before they had planned to marry. I suppose this was done for dramatic effect.
