Cathy Moriarty. Oh yes, she's still got it!
After having seen the movie for the first time today, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I had to come and express my appreciation for the talent that is Cathy Moriarty.
She's always been a vastly underrated actress in my view, consistently brilliant in everything, but often underutilised in films.
Kudos to the director here, for giving this monumental actress a chance to shine again, in the brief but piercing cameo as Michael Pitt's mother.
Her two scenes really anchored the emotional subtext of the movie. She was wounded, angry, heartbroken and devastating in her role, and in barely 5 minutes of screen time presented a fully fleshed, multi dimensional character.
I hope casting directors will pick up on this and give her larger, meatier roles in the future.
What a commanding presence she is. Wow. Just wow!
