Has anyone seen this?

If so, how does it compare to their previous movies? I didn't find Inside particularly scary (the "slasher" was very specifically after the protagonist, and for some reason I didn't extrapolate that fear into my own life - this happens with movies like Jaws too, where they don't actually scare me, regardless of how well-done they are), but it was very brutal and unnerving, and I jumped about 50 times. I thought it was really well done. Livide was a bit harder to follow plot-wise, but the atmosphere was extremely creepy and it freaked me out. This one looks pretty scary. Are there reviews up?

It was not scary at all.

I posted a little rambling review up in a separate thread, but overall, I found the movie to have been aimed at kids, more than anything. A trusted movie review site I go to made it seem like the directors had bounced back to form since Livid, and that the second half of this movie was completely, and utterly INSANE. Add kids to the mix, and that the "inspiration" for this movie was the likes of Stand By Me and The Hills Have Eyes, I was entirely sold.

The movie starts off with a super intense scene, that essentially outdid anything Inside had to offer. It was one of the most shocking things I had ever seen, but looking back, the movie never lived up to what that scene had set up. From there, it's just a group of kids being kids, skipping school and doing their thing, and you get the one actual frightening scene of the movie where the premise of the movie unfolds (kids see a woman being dragged around). It's definitely some pretty good witness horror (like Blue Velvet), and there's a good chase scene.

But from there, the movie goes entirely inexplicable. I'm not one of those people that like to think out loud, guess killers, and point out major plot holes when I see them, but there is just NO WAY the movie could've unfolded the way it did, unless the creators of this movie were aiming it towards children from the get go. It seems like one of those stories an older sibling will tell the younger ones, full of inexplicable events aimed at scaring kids. That's it.

There's little gore/violence (aside for the beginning and the end), yet the violence at the end of the movie is extremely cheesy, compared to the realistic gore from Inside (I would compare it more to the violence in Kill Bill 1). The villain goes from looking cool (never frightening, despite the clown mask) to looking entirely STUPID. With the formidable mutant angle they were going for, this mutant would totally get his ass kicked by the big mutant from The Hills Have Eyes. He's all scrawny, naked, and looks like Sacha Baron Cohen. Without the original get-up, it's the most disappointing reveal since Anakin in the original Return of the Jedi.

Either way, the movie was corny, it wasn't scary, all the scenes cutaway at their climax, and it was just a legitimately bad movie. The villain is hilariously awful. If you ignore my warning, you'll see what I'm talking about when you see the movie. Please respond in this thread when you agree with me a few months from now lmao.

Thanks for taking the time to respond! I will still see it, because I'm curious about the opening scene now - gawd knows I've sat through (what feels like) thousands of sh**tty horror movies for one or two cool scenes (Dario Argento, I'm looking at you). But I *AM* one of those people who can fixate on a major plot hole or silly effect during the movie (I annoy myself sometimes), so I'll take the rest of the film with a grain of salt. Thanks for your review:)

only because there are kids among the victims/protagonists doesn't make the film "aimed at kids". no way this movie will receive less than an r-rating.

don't know the budget, but it is clearly maury and bustillo's cheapest feature to date. i heard they even had to raise the money via crowdfunding. as a consequence there are only very few gore scenes, while most stuff has to happen offscreen.

the timing/editing is really subpar. and as it was previously mentioned, the villain doesn't look scary at all. so it ends up being just a mediocre movie, though the premise wasn't bad...

MrFilmJunkie, no, it feels like it was aimed at older kids/tweens because of the John Williams-ish whimsical E.T. musical score. at points i felt like i was watching SUPER 8.

greedoshootfirst, i agree 1000000% that this movie was incredibly terrible.

The movie sucks, if you thought the cops in "inside" were stupids wait till you see how they act in this putrid film. 3 out 10

I really liked it, although I am not a great fan of horro movies. The only thing that annoyed me, was the end. It was so absurd, that they killed the son, but not the father, the man who had just slashed two policemen. How can you already start hugging each other, while such a mad guy is still there, deploring his child, that was killed by the son of the persons, who are happily hugging each other in relief.

For me it would have been a good ending, if they had also killed the father, or, just for the purpose of still being able to create the last scene with him park, to have him escape from that place after his son was killed.

That was an absolute no-go for me. But I still liked it, it could just end better.

If you get time, do you mind telling me a bit more about what happens? I despair of ever getting the opportunity to see it with English subs:/ Thank you for the information!

Finally saw it! The subtitles were absolute crap, though. Was the man at the end supposed to be the father? I assumed the father had been shot, and the last man was the other son. Although I'm a little confused about the timeline, since he'd said Clarence was only 6 years old?? I figured he was just crazy after all he'd been through (not to mention hooking a bong up to a gas mask).

Anyways, I liked it, even if it didn't make much sense, and I was pissed as hell at the mother who let her husband be slowly killed while Clarence had time to sit on the ground and torture him:/ She couldn't ... I don't know, send her son to find the baby and hit him over the head?? Still, pretty good - I gave it a 6/10.

I saw it, too. I'm very disappointed - I really wanted to like it, but I can't give it more than 4/10.
