I've heard mixed things about this film. I really liked the first Paranormal Activity, thought 2 and 3 were decent, but hated the 4th film. For those who liked the first film, is this worth checking out?

I watched it this morning. I thought the first one was pretty good. I thought the sequels were okay. This one is about as good as you would expect the fifth movie in a series to be. This one didn't keep my attention as much as the first one did.

I liked the first Paranormal Activity also, but unlike you I did like the 4th film. The second one wasn't bad either. Anyways, I recently watched it and I don't know why but I found it funny in a couple of places, so it wasn't a horror movie to me. By this point, people know what to expect. I just watched out of curiosity.I would say don't expect a lot of new things. After viewing it, I don't tie it to the franchise. It feels separate even though it's related. Hated the ending and the way they tied it in with the first.
In the end, the main thing I ended up liking was the characters. The story, well, I think anyone can predict the plots at this point, lol. If you're looking for a strong scare, I'm not sure this film can give it to you.
