Why on earth was this is 3D?

Apart from the 3D being utterly pointless (if I'd had to pay extra like some I'd have been spitting sparks about that), half the damn footage is deliberately out of focus which is a strain on the eyes.
I admit I've not been a fan of the whole franchise but each film has had a few well executed scares. Unfortunately the ability to make a convincing rounded film from supposed 'found footage' is nigh on impossible, and the makers rely on your being so drawn in you won't think too hard about the ridiculous situation of the cameras being prioritised over all else.
I was severely disgruntled about the lack of focus and pointless 3D and hope that no-one feels the urge to prolong this franchise any further.

"Baldrick, I've told you before: you mustn't let me sleep all day; this woman charges by the hour."

The 3D was done for the hell of it. Almost any film these days that is effects driven has a 3D version. They probably thought that it would add something to the demon now being seen, I guess. In other words, cover up the lack of story and entertainment by overloading the movie with effects.

I think a bigger question is how CAN a 'found footage' film be in 3D? Are they saying that the characters are all filming the footage using 3D cameras, and somehow even that old VHS one was filming in 3D?

EDIT: spelling

"Don't threaten ME with a dead fish!"

It did have a story though, entertainment is debatable but it had a story.

Leila and Hunter have the same birthday, the reason Leila has to complete the ritual with Hunter is because Leila was marked inutero (in Emily's womb) like Hunter and Jessie was, In the unrated cut Leila asks Emily if she died when she was a baby, to which Emily replies that when she was born the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck which made it hard for her to breathe, so this could of gave Toby the chance to meet Leila in her near death experience, I mean why else would they of added that minor scene? it seemed to hold some significance.

Leila seemed to be more 'special' because when Kent told Katie about how there was a special girl just like her and they would need her to find her, and this takes place right after Julie's and Dennis's deaths, so this makes it sound as if Katie and Kristi with the help of Kent and Lois opened a doorway to the fleeges residence which was built on top of K and K's childhood home, which allowed them to send Toby to them because they opened a doorway in the same location but in the future basically, this sounds like some sort of weird
time dilation which means the events DID occur at the same time, but it was just delayed.

THIS is why Toby didn't abduct newborn Leila like he did with Hunter, because they reached out to Leila through Krist's trance state and when Leila played Bloody Mary and you saw a hand print on the mirror, Toby already knew of Leila before her conception, just like he knew Kristi would have Hunter even though she was still a child as shown by the words 'HUNTER' in Leila's room when the priest asks if it means anything to Ryan, AND the beginning of the movie when Kent tells Kristi she's going to have a son who is one of the chosen.

And Kristi's trance state in 1992 actually guided Toby through the fleeges residence, it's all occurring simultaneously, if that makes any sense.

Did any of you guys actually see the movie in 3D? Some parts were pointless but a couple of the jump scares were quite effective in 3D. I enjoyed it myself.

Because Toby.
