What new scenes are in the extended edition?
I watched the 3D Blu-Ray and sadly you can only watch the theater cut in 3D. What new scenes got added?

Well, there's scenes showing Katie and Kristi burying some sort of 'crown' in the ground, instructed by a woman in the Coven that they believe is their mother, cuts to them talking about Toby and how Katie hopes he's proud of them, they play a knocking game with him where they knock in response to him knocking on the walls and then the closet door suddenly opens, which they enter and the door shuts, next scene is the Coven leader with the ponytail tells Kristi how their fake 'mother' told him a secret, the secret was that Kristi could do something she didn't even know she could, and it relates the main plot of the movie with opening 'doors' and that time travel stuff, apparently Lois has this ability as well, final scene of them ends with playing Bloody Mary and apparently are talking to someone through the mirror, hinting that it's Leila, I don't know, it wasn't explained well, like everything in the movie.
Then the next scenes are showing Ryan telling Emily about how Kristi on the tapes drew a picture of their Christmas tree with the angel on top, Toby shakes the tree and wakes them up, scares them by breaking glass and shakes the tree again, it then cuts to Ryan hearing noises in Mike's room, they hear scratching noises in his closet, the camera closes in on the closet wall as this black 'stuff' forms before Toby appears for a split second, cuts to Emily entering Leila's room but can't find her, instead she finds the 'crown' Katie and Kristi buried in the ground, in a backpack, you can see Leila's feet hovering above Emily, hinting Toby is holding her, Emily leaves the room with the crown calling for Leila, then suddenly Leila appears behind her, Emily asks her where she found the crown to which Leila replies 'I didn't say you could go into my room' and Emily isn't happy with her attitude, Leila starts giggling while looking behind her, but there's nothing there, scaring Emily a bit. Next scene has Ryan showing Emily the tapes and there's footage of Leila with the Coven in 1992, this freaks Emily out, but it doesn't really make sense because how would they have received the footage from 1992 when they're in the present? And when did the footage take place? when Leila first went through the portal in the film?
Then the final scene has Ryan and Emily leave the house to look for parapsychologists to figure out their problem, leaving Mike and Skyler to babysit Leila, they take some shots and try to relax, it cuts to them looking at a symbol of the Midwives on the computer, suddenly Leila is out of bed and and is excited because Santa is here, Mike leaves Skyler to get Leila back to bed, Leila creepily starts giggling while repeating 'Santa is coming to take me away' and the door starts moving, downstairs a figure in a santa suit which hints that Toby has manifested as Santa, he starts creeping behind Skyler, off screen Skyler starts screaming for Mike to get down here, Mike comes down, Skyler says that she felt something touch her, but you can't see anything there, Skyler is having an anxiety attack as she can feel Toby's presence, then loud bangs are heard within the fireplace, Mike turns around then sees Skyler in the air being choked by Toby, she falls down and they get up only to see Leila staring at them with a blank expression, Skyler realizes that Leila is possessed and she keeps walking towards Skyler, she tries to open the doors but they don't even budge, she goes into the kitchen and pulls a knife out, Emily and Ryan are back and yell at her to put the knife down, freaking out that she put a sharp object in front of their daughter's face, but they also didn't know what happened to make her snap like that, this one was very intense in my opinion but it also wouldn't of made sense within the context of the film because after seeing Skyler holding the knife towards Leila, I seriously doubt they'd let her go near their daughter, but none of the movie really makes sense, so it's a given, right? I was hoping to see the deleted footage from the previous films, guess that'll be for the box set.
Thanks for the details! I'll probably have to watch it again to see that. I wish they would put the extended in 3D because it's cool that way.

None of that is in the Extended cut I watched. I've not seen the Theatrical cut which is 88 mins long, only both extended cuts. Which were 95min Extended Cut w/Alternate Ending & 97min Extended Cut. So I can't shed any further light on what was omitted apart from 9 minutes of stuff. I'm sure movie censorship will do a comparison before long as they have with the other 5 films.
shareWell, I was referring to the deleted scenes, the extended cut has some neat scenes, like the Santa Claus standing in front of Leila's room, the extra scene that has the daughter ask the mother if she died when she was a baby and it turns out that her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck, at her birth, or Toby standing beside Leila in her bedroom then slams the door in the mother's face, then the last extra scene has Skyler go up to Leila who's sitting by the fireplace, she asks if she's waiting for Santa Claus and how he won't be here for a few days, then Leila turns around with a blank expression and replies with a creepy voice.
"Get. Away. From. Me. then she turns back to the fireplace like nothing happened, hinting that Toby had complete control of Leila and managed to distance her from her family.
Yeah this is what the OP was asking about. Good info on both counts anyway, cheers. Bit odd that they re-inserted some of the Santa stuff but not all of it.
shareWell, it's possible that the deleted scene 'SANTA IS HERE' was supposed to entail a different ending, given the time-frame and story that takes place, it wouldn't be able to happen as Emily wouldn't trust her friend around her daughter if she saw her pointing a knife at her face, and the date of that scene is unknown but the friend of Emily was showing Mike the Midwives cult symbol on the computer which is information that was gathered at the part of the movie when Ryan shows Emily the symbols on printed paper that match the symbols in their daughter's room.
I enjoyed it actually, the one of many scenes in the deleted scenes that had no CGI but simply 'something going bump in the night' which made it resemble Paranormal Activity more in that regard I find.
My only question is why is Santa even a character in this movie. Is that Toby In costume and if so why walk around as a shadow from spider man 3, and switch to the Santa suit and sneak around people. I know this movie makes no sense but that really is dumb.
shareI'm not really sure why, but If I could take a guess, I'd assume it was supposed to represent the fact that it was Christmas in a few days, and Toby is a shape shifter that can take the form of anything he chooses, that's what I got from it anyway.
shareJust to follow up on my previous post. Movie Censorship did their comparison between theatrical & extended. For anyone interested, here you go http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=589223
