Lacking heart

I like Ryan Reynolds, the young kid was good, and the special effects were top notch. The ingredients are there, but it just never came together. The movie seems to be missing its heart. As I watched The Adam Project, I couldn’t help but compare it to Disney’s The Kid. They’re different kinds of movies, but the basic story of a man meeting his younger self - and dealing with the hurt of his past - still dominates both movies. The Kid, however, did it with poignancy and more than a few tugs at your heartstrings. I wish TAP had developed those kinds of characters. By the time the overblown second half arrives, it’s too late to care much for the characters. Shame, too, because the basic setup is there.

I thought that Ryan Reynolds' version of Adam was way too mean to his younger self. How could you talk down to YOURSELF like that? You're all knowing, for God's sake, tell the kid all of life's secrets! I guess maybe he didn't want to "change" too much, a la Back to the Future, but no need to be mean to your own self.

It's good and fitting that he put the bully in it's place, and hold him to hug his Mom, but he should have done more, and realistically would have.
